To understand the Latin American regressive phenomenon, must be taken into account that the majority of those who voted for the left extremists, are farmers or people with very little education who find it impossible to understand the mechanisms of the modern economy. Even those who are at a higher intellectual level understand its operation. The alternative is the easy route, the Socialist promise of: the State will provide everything, sounds better that arrange you as you can. The conceptual deficit accompanied by a powerful tool: the democratic vote. Everyone vote, even though they know barely read and write. That is the greatest risk to democracy, because power is falling into the hands of people who don’t have to prepare or scruples to direct others.
Only in first world countries and those who are developing, representative democracy can function properly, because most have some instruction, obeys the laws, is guided by a code of conduct moral, has respect for others, cares for res publica and, more than anything: pay taxes. If the vote only to those who are taxed, be restricted in Latin America would be hardly waving their red handkerchiefs some of the current rulers. Who pays taxes has the virtue of knowing honest toil, expects a fair remuneration from the State, is aware of the effort that means earn their bread and enjoys well-deserved benefits of their profits. Voting compulsory and unrestricted, common to virtually all Latin American countries, is a weapon that can kill the freedom of all. A partial way of braking that cheerful vote and unconscious, which is degenerating in the rise to power of dangerous despots and demagogues, would be: who does not contribute: do not vote.
