Social Quot
Mead development its social psychology from its conception of ” gesto”. In the adaptation from the man to its surroundings the communication of gestures plays a fundamental role. Wundt located the gesture in its social context and was this aspect of the work of Wundt the one that Mead took and developed. The study of Mead leaves from the social process in march and indicates that from him they emerge the mind, I and the society. The level of symbolic communication in the man through language is what the formation allows and development of the mind for Wundt the language was the product of the mind, for Mead, the mind was the product of the language. In the social process and through the interaction or communication it arises, brings back to consciousness of own I. In ” conversation of gestos” , the individuals in interaction infer the thoughts, feelings and intentions of the others.
Through this dynamics whose base is the language, each assumes the perspective of the other and adopts the attitudes of the other towards itself. In this assumption of rolls, the person takes the paper from ” another one generalizador” ; and it is the incorporation of these attitudes which constitutes ” Mi” , so that this one is developed from a social process in which the characteristics of the social frame are acquired in that it is lived. In any social process the individuals are explained in terms of the society and not it society from the individuals. ” Social psychology studies the activity or conduct of the individual when this conduct is anchored within the social process; the conduct of an individual one only can be included/understood in terms of conduct of total the social group del that is member since their individual actions are including in social acts ampler than they surpass his own individuality and they imply to the other members of grupo”. Social psychology in the USA did not follow the lines drawn up by Mead. The man who became the main front sight was Allport. It was a heterodox conductista and a experimentalista, both came together in him and both fitted in the atmosphere of the time.
With him the experiment of laboratory in social psychology was introduced and this one discipline entered the experimental land. It reacted against theories that defined social psychology as the study of the group and against the existence of an organization supraindividual. Allport was against everything what it had introduced McDougall: the instincts and the mind of group. The anthropology realised contributions to this discipline throughout century XX. They emphasized the importance of the knowledge of different cultures to understand the social conduct. The contributions can be grouped in 3 lines of thought: – An individualistic approach and in her is placed the instintivista approach of McDougall and the conductista approach of Allport. – The group study of the groups and psychological processes, the work of Ross is framed here, – third it puts his accent in the society and in her are the Meads and the anthropological investigations. The individuocntrico approach seems to be dominant during these the first decades of century XX.
